Home Battery Incentives And Rebates

Incentives change often. Treat this page as a checklist of where to look, not a list of amounts.

Federal

The IRS says the Residential Clean Energy Credit, which covered battery storage of at least 3 kilowatt hours, is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025 (source: IRS page on the Residential Clean Energy Credit, checked October 2026). A battery installed in 2026 does not qualify for it. Confirm your situation with a tax professional before you rely on any credit.

State And Local

Some states and cities offer rebates, tax breaks, or grants for storage. Search your state energy office website and the DSIRE incentive database.

Utility Programs

Some utilities pay customers who let their battery help the grid at peak times, or offer upfront rebates. Call your utility and ask about storage, demand response, and virtual power plant programs.
